Screen Free Weekend
Social media can be so addictive. For the past three weeks, I deactivated my facebook account as a way to train my mind to focus more internally. I found that when I was focusing my energy outward, I was left with little for myself. And it's not to say that I don't look forward to seeing my friends posts and hearing what new adventures or experiences that are entertaining them at the moment, but sometimes, you can spend so much time on social media while neglecting the things we should in our everyday life. And lately, mental health has been an area of interest as it relates to everyday simplicity. If we can only minimize our attention to the screen and utilize that energy to get outdoors - there's flowers! birds! - we can actually give more to ourselves. Here's what my screen free weekend gave me: time to meditate while forest bathing, pinecones!, discovery of a tribal grinding stone site!, nature hike to work on the cardio, the dogs got their exercise too, Vitamin D!. Here's what fell away - stress, anxiety, the need to do more, and the fear that the earth would succumb to global disaster when I wasn't looking at the screen.
